Rethymno Crete The Venetian Harbour

The prefecture of Rethymnon (Rethymno) in Crete is celebrated for its stunning natural environment, packed with caves, valleys, gorges, lakes, mountains and plantations that are perfect for hiking and trekking. Start off with a visit to the Ideo Andro Cave in Anogia, the Cave of Melidoni in Perama and the “Sfendoni I Tripa” Cave in Zoniana. You can also walk through the splendid Kourtaliotiko Gorge, Patsos Gorge and Kotsifou Gorge. Preveli Lake is considered one of the most beautiful areas in Crete. If you are interested in archaeological and historical sites, we recommend visiting the ancient city ruins of Eleftherna, Syvritos, Amari, Apodoulou and Lappa. The Monasteries of Arkadi and the Preveli are wonderful specimens of religious architecture and art. Lastly, you should take a stroll around Rethymnon Town to see the impressive Venetian and Turkish monuments, and visit the fine museums.

The Rethymnon Prefecture has many stunning beaches with clear waters. On the northern side of the prefecture, you can swim at the beaches near Rethymnon Town, and in Platanes, Gerani, Bali, Panormos, Episkopii, and Adele. Along the southern coast you will come across the beaches of Triopetra, Preveli, Agia Galini, Plakias, Rodakino, Agios Georgios, Ammoudi, Agios Pavlos and Damnoni.
